THE NANTLLE RIDGE.
Time 4 - 6 hours. Maximum height 734m. (2400 ft) This is a splendid and popular walk but planning is essential. The paths marked on the OS map for the western end are not to be relied upon. They do not exist. There is no public transport between Nantlle and Rhyd Ddu and most people leave a car at one end. The local taxi fare between the two ends of the ridge is about £ 5. (01286 880485) CAR PARKING. The official car park at Rhyd Ddu is about 100m south of the village on the A 4085. The path to the ridge starts opposite the car park. There is also roadside parking for about five cars about 200m. along the B4418 to Nantlle and the path continues from this point. The car park at Tal-y-Sarn is at the T-junction just north of the bridge. Access at the west end. Option 1. Park in a field at GR 495511. Driving from Nantlle to Tal-y-Sarn along the B4418 there is an unmarked turning just before the council houses. After passing through Tan-yr-Allt take the next unmarked turning to the left and go up to the gate into the field. The problem with car vandalism here is said to have been solved. Option 2. Access the same point by walking up from Tal-y-Sarn. UP. From the T-junction at Tal-y-Sarn walk down to the bridge and go down to the right just before it. Cross the foot bridge and walk up to Tan-yr-Allt. Take the track up by the side of the chapel and go through the gate(stile) to the right just before the quarry then immediately go left up by the side of the quarry and over a stile. Halfway up the hill take another stile to the right then turn left up the hill and through gates on to the Glangors farm track. Turn right here and left on to the road. DOWN .From Garnedd Goch go down the west side of the wall and follow this line over stiles until you reach the gate on to the road. Walk down the road and turn right on to the farm track at Glangors. Just before the farm take gates to the left and go down the hill. The stile you now need to the right is almost hidden behind a ruined house. Turn left after going over this then over another stile and down by the edge of the quarry. Turn right on to the track then left down to Tan-yr-Allt and reverse the above directions. NB The line of posts referred to on the map offer a quick boggy way down to the road. They may be picked up by following the line of the stream down from the lakes of Cwm Silyn and going rightwards where this goes under the wall. They are about 40 cm high.
