March 1st / 2nd 2008
Our Annual Charity Event challenges cyclists to cycle the famous Snowdon Marathon Course around the foot of Snowdon. Starting at the Cwellyn Arms, Rhyd Ddu, from where the event is organised, cyclists follow the picturesque route via Llanberis, Pen y Pass, Nant Gwynant, Beddgelert returning to the Cwellyn. It is not a race, but a fun days cycle with attentive stewards on duty throughout and has attracted everyone from the keen cyclists to family groups, all obtaining sponsorship to finish. Not only does everyone receive a certificate but also a bowl of the Landlords home made soup on return.
The 2007 Bike Hike, held last March was blessed with a lovely day on the Saturday with a record number of riders turning up, but was sadlly compensated for by a very wet and windy Sunday which deterred a number of entrants. However the event raised £2,700 for charity. We have donated £500 to the Beddgelert WI’s fund for the Special Needs School in Caernarfon and will be donating a further £2,200 to the Air Ambulance. Well done to everyone who took part, especially the 2 youngsters who not only completed the course but also raised an excellent amount of money.
